Monoprinting

I enjoy the challenge of having to work quickly when producing monoprints using fast drying water based inks. This approach suits my aim which is to get the essential elements of the subject down as rapidly as possible. I begin by painting straight onto the screen using a large brush. I then wipe away areas and repaint them if necessary. My other technique when making monoprints is to roll a very thin layer of ink onto the screen, gently lower paper over the top then draw the marks onto the paper. I used this technique recently when I produced an xmas calendar depicting Santa, the Reindeer, Elves and their various preparations for the big day. I sometimes produce collagraphs using string, felt, cardboard and pva glue.
